How to declutter your mind and open space for clarity

I’ve been talking about my word of the year lately. It’s the beginning of a new year, that means it’s a good time to choose a word to guide you.

For me, choosing the word of the year is more about allowing the divine to connect with you and bring what you need through your intuition than trying to take control of your life. Most of the times, trying to take control leads us to stress and overwhelm, we need to find the balance between taking action and trusting the divine.

Why am I saying all this?

The quick guide I created is a tool to be used, but if your mind is cluttered you may face uncertainty or dissatisfaction with the outcome of the exercise. So, here’s a ritual you can use to declutter your mind and open space for clarity.

P.S. You can use this same ritual in other situations that you need clarity and also practice listening to your intuition.

STEP 1 | OPEN SPACE

Choose a place that is special for you, a place that makes you feel comfortable and cozy. It might be your craft room, workstation, office, bedroom… Take a look around, if something is bothering you, it’s time to declutter and clean. You don’t need to have a huge Spring Cleaning moment, but try to hide or remove from sight the things that annoy you and make the place the most comfortable it can be now.

STEP 2 | WAKE UP ALL YOUR SENSES

Add color to your special place – especially with flowers and plants (nature is always inspiring), you can also add colored sticky notes or ribbons, anything that makes you feel happy.

Place perfumed candles or pour home perfume around the room.

Play relaxing music that makes you feel calm and peaceful.

Prepare or order your favorite drink.

Find a comfortable spot in the room to sit, I recommend you use soft cushions or pillows to make it super comfortable.

STEP 3 | SET QUIET ME TIME

Give yourself the gift of quiet time. If you don’t live alone, tell your family or roommates that you need 30 minutes of quiet time. They shouldn’t call you, knock on the door or anything else that might distract you.

YOU’RE ALMOST READY…

Before you start following the guide, get comfortable… take a deep breath or two, pay attention to the room, smell the perfume, listen to the music, get yourself in a relaxed pace to connect with your intuition. If you notice worries or thoughts about things you need to get done or that you can’t forget, take a minute and write everything down on a notepad so you can take them off of your mind and check in later. That way, you’re gonna empty your mind and be ready for the exercise.

Good luck!

oh… and remember to share what is your word of the year in the comments.
